InVision BioResources Animal Use Policy on the Use of Incidental Tissue

InVision BioResources utilized tissues from animals already scheduled for euthanasia for other purposes or for human food consumption reducing the overal number of animals used in research and teaching. Animals are not euthanized for the sole purpose of deriving the tissues, and no protocol-specific ante-mortem manipulations are part of tissue collection. Tissues are only derived as a by-product from animals euthanized under other Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) approved protocols, or from other sources (e.g., slaughterhouse tissues).

Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) Information

Generally, neither the Animal Welfare Regulations nor the PHS Policy protocol review requirements apply to dead animals in the research facility setting. However, we strongly recommend that you contact your institutions IACUC in order to ensure compliance with the regulations and policies of your specific insitution.

Occupational Health Recommendations (OHRs)

InVision BioResources utilizes incidental tissues obtained from animals. As such, there may be occupational health concerns associated with handling such tissue that require the review or approval of your institutions Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) Program. As these requirements vary by institution, we strongly recommend that you consult with OH&S to determine the requirements specific to your institution.
